Serengeti Fasano Sunglasses Review
I purchased the Fasanos with the Polar PhD CPG (Cool Photo Grey) lens. The Polar PhD lens are built upon the NXT lens. They are polarized, photochromic, has anti-reflective coating to absorb backside reflections, impact resistant, light-weight, and repels fingerprints, water, and dirt. When compared to my previous sunglasses (Optic Nerve Eyeque Sunglasses), these are far superior. And of course, these are much more expensive as well. These are the most expensive sunglasses that I have bought to-date. But I think they are worth it. When compared to the competition, a sunglasses with all the features listed above can easily hit the $200 range. And with most brand names, just having polarized lens alone can bring the price to above $100.
I find it really hard to find a pair of sunglasses that combines anti-reflection, photochromic, and polarized lens together. For me the polarized lens is just a plus (but wow, I didn't know what a difference it made until I looked through one). Eliminating the backside reflections is the main reason why I wanted the Fasanos. With my previous pair, standing out in the sun causes backside reflections of my own facial skin to appear on lens and is a major distraction for me. Also, I find it very ironic that a pair of sunglasses gives you better vision when underneath the shade than under the sun. With the Fasanos, these backside reflections are not completely eliminated, but I'd say about 90% are being absorbed by the lens and only very strong reflections are faintly visible. And when they do show, they are mostly positioned toward the peripheral vision, hence, much less distracting. The photochromic property of the Fasanos means I can keep the glasses on when in indoors or when hiking through the shades, perfect for the lazy side of me.
Unlike the Serengeti Coriano Sunglasses and Serengeti Verucchio Sunglasses, the arms of these sunglasses do not snap into place. They are just like other regular sunglasses. As a result, they don't feel as solid as the Corianos and Verucchios. I have a smaller, narrow face and the Fasanos are just a bit wide for me. The flat frame straight across the top of the lens also does not suit my face. But of course, aesthetic opinions are subjective, so it is important to try these on yourself and draw your own conclusions. In terms of size, these are smaller than the Serengeti Cetera Polar Sunglasses, but bigger than the Verucchios and Corianos, with the Corianos being the smallest of all.
In the end, I went with the Corianos as the styling and size fits me much better.
