[Since writing the review (below), I've noticed that the club has become more scarce and more expensive. Now that I've hit it enough times, I'd say it's a 40-dollar club but not a "game-saver." I thought it would be less conspicuous than the big bazookas (490cc?) that everybody is using since Big Bertha, but it looks and feels as large as any other over-sized driver. I set the weights to make the ball draw: it didn't. Another golfer, who is color blind, tried it and couldn't set the weights properly because they all looked the same to him. So this one lasted less than a month as the object of my affections. I'm going back to the big off-set driver (If I swing it like a pendulum, letting the weight of the golf head do the work instead of trying to muscle the ball, my slice is usually under control). And if the off-set continues to send balls into right-field oblivion (the first hole is always the worst, because you're trying to impress the accumulating golfers just behind you), I've always got a trusty McGregor Dr. X #1 iron (doesn't hit as far, but it makes the ball go straight--an extraordinary accomplishment in my case.)]Pinemeadow has recently discontinued this driver (I know, not a good sign), but that means discounts on a driver that enables you to do something about (but not eliminate) a wicked slice without being seen with one of those odd, off-set sticks that makes you too embarrassed to play the game. What Amazon's description doesn't say is that the club allows you to place weights in the bottom at strategic places designed to correct an incorrigible trajectory with each big hit (followed by that awful sinking feeling--why did I agree to go golfing today?--and in public?)
My slice was so bad that only by driving the ball at a 90-degree angle to my hole did I have any chance of hitting the fairway! Moreover, I was a menace to all other players, wherever they happened to be stationed (I hit someone standing in the tee-zone of a hole on the other side of the woods!).
Here's what to expect with this gizmo: the 700 driver includes two 6-gram tungsten weights and two 2-gram aluminum weights pre-installed. Here is how the weights should be set up for different shot types.
A. heavier weights on the heel produce a draw
B. heavier weights on the toe generate a fade
C. heavier weights towards the front (face) produces lower ball flight and increases workability
D. heavier weights towards the rear produces higher ball flight and increase forgiveness
Adjust the weights to play a draw and it will theoretically help you with your slice similar to what offset drivers were designed for. My purpose is to get the benefits of an offset (which marks you as a severely handicapped golfer who probably shouldn't be playing in public) with a club that looks fairly ordinary if not respectable.
If this fails, so does my golfing career. Or I may drive exclusively with my irons, which tend to go somewhat straight. Or I may try one of those ladies' hybrid drivers.
